This post is about my opinion of is it worth ordering food from LOT’s “Gourmet meals” in economy class on short-haul flights.
Keep in mind that I was flying during summer 2021 when airlines were running many services with some twists to adapt to the Mexican beer crisis.
BULLET POINTS AS KEY POINTS TO TAKE AWAY
- It is a fancy way to treat yourself on a short trip when you don’t want to eat something other than snacks, but sadly, it doesn’t come with a drink.
- Economy + premium meal is a better value for money than business class on this route.
STORY

I tried a new airline between London and Wroclaw (via Warsaw) using LOT on my trip home.
I have noticed that they have a premium meal for 10 British queens, and I decided to buy it and compare it to meals offered by Ryanair and Wizzair (it is part of my project to compare various ways to fly in Europe.
HOW WAS THE MEAL?
You will get bread, butter, ham, cheese, olives, fruit selection and chicken salad.
I was pleasantly surprised, but it was a decent meal. Everything was delicious, and I enjoyed every bite.
It is much better than what Wizzair and Ryanair have to offer in that price range.
The only problem is that you need to order at least 24 hours before the flight and that it doesn’t come with a drink.
IS IT WORTH IT?
For “airline prices”, it is a worthy option.
In my case, when I fly at night and I need a late evening light meal. Another example is when I fly back to Heathrow and need to eat something because I know I will be stuck somewhere like border control, where the queue reminds me of long lines to shop during communist times in Poland or on M25, where is always peak time.
SUMMARY
If you fancy a treat yourself on a short trip, it is worth the price with only drawback: it doesn’t come with a drink.
For me, economy + premium meal is a better value for money than business class on this route, except when you need lounge access for whatever reason.
The only problem is that you need to order at least 24 hours before the flight and that it doesn’t come with a drink. However, I must mention that I was flying during summer 2021 where airlines ran many services with some twists to adapt to the “Mexican beer” crisis. It is much better than what Wizzair and Ryanair have to offer in that price range.
